About Bowen
Bowen is a remarkable and powerful tool, encouraging your body to heal itself. All your body needs is the stimulus to help it to communicate with your brain, thereby initiating the self-healing process. Thumbs and fingers are used to make small rolling moves over precise points of the body, gently stimulating fascia which connects to muscles, soft tissue and energy.
A treatment consists of small sets of moves, with breaks in-between. During these breaks I may leave the room for a short while, allowing the body to rest and respond to the moves.
This gives the body an opportunity to make those subtle adjustments which relieve tension, reduce pain and promote healing. Bowen therapy was developed in Australia by Tom Bowen in the 1950s. He was a healer and could feel the vibration of muscles, telling him where to make subtle moves.
The Benefits of Bowen
The gentle moves of a Bowen treatment send signals that stimulate energy flow – aid lymphatic drainage of toxins and waste – promote good circulation – release muscular tension and increase mobility.
Bowen can be particularly effective for muscular, soft tissue and skeletal problems. Conditions which respond well include frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, RSI, neck and back pain, cramps, inflammation and tendonitis – also accident and sports injuries, including pulled hamstrings, sprains, strains, broken or fractured bones and old injuries – recurring headaches, migraine and earache, tonsillitis and allergies – respiratory conditions such as asthma, hay fever, sinusitis – abdominal problems: nausea, constipation, indigestion etc. – emotional problems…and many more.
Treatments are usually a week apart. Acute conditions may respond immediately, while chronic conditions may take longer; however, after the third treatment there should be significant improvement. Regular follow-ups are beneficial for health maintenance and stress management. With Bowen, sports players are less likely to re-injure and may heal more quickly.
