I often think of Swami Atmananda with affection. Back in the ‘70s I attended one of her seminars.
At lunchtime one of the girls asked me if I’d like to go to the village with her– she wanted something from the chemist. We went, and were soon on the return journey, but couldn’t get through on the road because of an accident. Oh dear!
We waited and waited, and when we eventually reached Duffield House and rushed to the practice room, we found a note pinned on the door: ‘You are late. Go to your room and practise there’!
Chatting with Swamiji one day, she said to me, ‘You will teach yoga’, to which I replied that I didn’t know enough, but she insisted. Many years later I was pushed into teaching because of a tutor’s illness, and I wrote and told her. In her reply she said, ‘Remember your sadhana, to keep on learning’.
