Mataji was there for me at every turn of my life. In my twenties, when I was foundering and searching for some direction to my life, she restored me from a state of crisis to balance.
Even after I was married, and returned to Singapore yearly, visiting her became the highlight of my visit. She was not merely a yoga teacher, although the yoga techniques taught to us by the Bihar School of Yoga brought great benefits to us – but much more: a friend, a mentor, a guide.
She came down to meet us at our level, so much so that we sometimes forgot we were in an awesome presence.
I can only say, with much gratitude, that through humorous anecdotes and insightful stories, loving support and plain common sense, she showed me how to live.
Mataji will always be missed sorely by all of us. My father especially (Mr Tikam Mulani) would like to add that Mataji brought not only yoga – although that in itself was a wonderful gift – but also joy and meaning into every life she touched.
